Subaru Rally Tasmania has been named as a finalist in the Launceston Chamber of Commerce’s 2018 Tasmanian Perpetual Trustees Business Excellence Awards.
Nominated in the City of Launceston Outstanding Event category, the awards celebrate entrepreneurship and recognise individuals and organisations who are building a better future and paving their own paths to success.
Event Director Graham Malcolm was thrilled to see the new event nominated in the awards.
“The team at Subaru Rally Tasmania are rapt to be a finalist in the Launceston Chamber of Commerce’s business awards, particularly in our first year of running the event,” Malcolm said.”
“Certainly part of the motivation for running the event was to re-introduce national level rallying to Launceston and we achieved that – we pulled a lot of people in to the heart of Launceston in the middle of winter, 5000-6000 people on a Friday night along with an impressive number of spectators over the weekend.”
“Launceston really came alive for the three-day event.”
“The event also brought in over 400 hotel rooms, 2000 bed nights, which in turn, brings significant economic flow on to restaurants and other businesses in the Launceston area.”
Subaru Rally Tasmania celebrated the return of the CAMS Australian Rally Championship to the Apple Isle after a 10 year absence.
With headquarters and the service park based in the heart of Launceston, Australia’s best rally crews were challenged by the fast and flowing roads in the Diddleum Plains area and the Retreat Forest along with the tight and technical sections in the Sideling Range and Lisle State Forest.
Winners of the awards will be announced at the sold out 2018 Tasmanian Perpetual Trustees Business Excellence Awards Gala Dinner on Saturday 27 October 2018.
