SARC: AGL Energy powers up Rally of the Heartland

AGL, operators of Australia’s largest electricity generation portfolio and the largest ASX-listed investor in renewable energy, has secured naming rights to one of Australia’s newest and most exciting rallies – the Rally of the Heartland. The event will be known as AGL Rally SA – Rally of the Heartland, and will be held in South Australia’s Mid North on 1-3 June 2018.

Based around Burra, AGL Rally SA – Rally of the Heartland will bring the South Australian Rally Championship and a range of iconic classic rally cars to the picturesque Flinders Ranges, home to AGL’s wind farms at Brown Hill, Hallett Hill, North Brown Hill, and the Bluff Range.

The organisers of the event, RallyOne, will work with AGL to contribute enduring benefits to the communities of the Mid North. The AGL Rally SA – Rally of the Heartland will bolster regional tourism and provide a significant boost to the local economy.

AGL’s Hallett Wind Farms will get an innovative showcase during AGL Rally SA’s iconic wind farm stages. These stages are a unique feature of the South Australian event and will include the longest wind farm stage held anywhere in the world. This course provides a real challenge for competitors, a spectacle for the public, and underlines the capacity of AGL’s renewable energy assets. The combined 167 wind turbines of AGL’s Hallett Wind Farms, together with associated infrastructure such as substations and connection assets, generate enough clean, green energy to power around 200,000 average Australian homes and also save approximately 770,000 tonnes of greenhouse gases each year.

“AGL is proud to be naming rights sponsor of the 2018 AGL Rally SA – Rally of the Heartland. We have been an active part of the Mid North region for well over a decade, and we pride ourselves in supporting local events and initiatives. We’re excited about this unique opportunity to have classic cars race through our wind farms, which will provide a spectacular experience for drivers and spectators.” said Simon Kelley, Renewables Manager.

Rally Director, Ivar Stanelis, said he was delighted that AGL had agreed to team up with the Rally SA event. “This is a truly significant partnership. We’re thrilled to have a high quality Australian brand like AGL supporting us. Rallying focusses on dependability, action and durability, which underlines the AGL brand’s unparalleled strength in the energy market. This association is great for the sport in Australia generally and great for us locally, and I am confident it will be beneficial to both organisations.”
