Rally of Fame to welcome new crop of inductees

The Australian Rally Hall of Fame will welcome new inductees for the first time since 2019 later this year with a host of decorated individuals to receive the prestigious honour.

Taking place at the start of December in conjunction with the 100th anniversary of the Alpine Rally, seven individuals will be officially inducted to the Hall of Fame as part of the Australian Rally Hall of Fame Gala dinner.

Making up the list of inductees are a mix of drivers, co-drivers and others to have a significant impact on Australian rally – many of which are familiar to rally fans of all ages.

The drivers to be recognised include multiple RSEA Safety Motorsport Australia Rally Championship winner Cody Crocker, South Australian Stewart McLeod and the late Geoff Portman, all of whom were highly successful in their respective competitions.

Joining the trio of drivers in being inducted will be esteemed rally contributor Les Walkden, one of Australia’s leading co-drivers in Iain Stewart, highly experienced photographer Stuart Bowes and the late Mike Bell, who was a highly respected competitor, organiser and member of the Australian Rally Commission.

The seven new inductees will join the 36 current members of the prestigious club, one of which will be attending as the special guest speaker during the dinner.

Inducted in 2014, Rally Hall of Famer and Australian Rally Champion Ed Ordynski will take centre stage to discuss his career and success, which included several WRC Group N rally wins.

The gala dinner, which will celebrate the seven new inductees will take place at the Lakes Entrance Golf Club in Victoria on the opening night of the Alpine Rally.

Limited tickets for the event are still on sale and cost $75, with interested attendees encouraged to get in early to avoid missing out.

Hall of Famer and Australian Rally Commission member Coral Taylor was looking forward to celebrating a new wave of Hall of Fame inductees.

“It’s been quite a while since some new inductees were able to join the Hall of Fame and we’re thrilled to finally be able to welcome some more,” Taylor said.

“This year’s crop of inductees are all highly deserving to be there and we can’t wait to officially celebrate them.

“The town will already be buzzing due to the Alpine Rally, so it will be a brilliant atmosphere and I highly recommend rally fans to try and make it there and be a part of a memorable night of celebration.

“The Australian Rally Hall of Fame Gala dinner is always a fantastic night for everyone who attends, and I am sure this year will be no different.”
