New look Tasmanian ARC event in 2022

The third round of the RSEA Safety Motorsport Australia Rally Championship (ARC) will be known as Rally Launceston, celebrating the host city of this year’s bigger and better event.

Promoted by Motorsport Australia, the event will be held on 25-26 June, and will showcase the idyllic forests surrounding Tasmania’s northern city, Launceston.

Organisers of the event have already begun planning for the Apple Isle rally, with some exciting new roads set to feature on the schedule, along with the return of some familiar stages.

Rally Launceston has the support of both the Tasmanian Government, as well as the City of Launceston, promising to deliver a sporting spectacle, with the national rally championship set to thrive in 2022.

Motorsport Australia Director of Motorsport & Commercial Operations Michael Smith said the new look event would be a terrific opportunity for Launceston motorsport fans to witness something special.

“The last two years have been difficult for motorsport competitors, officials and organisers, with travel restrictions impacting our ability to host national events around Australia,” Smith explained.

“With those restrictions now well and truly behind us, we’re excited to launch into a huge 2022, including delivering an exciting new look Rally Launceston in Tasmania later this year.

“We’re extremely grateful to both the Tasmanian Government and City of Launceston for their ongoing support and we know this event will have a significant economic impact on the region, with competitors, teams, officials and spectators all converging on Launceston to witness the RSEA Safety Motorsport Australia Rally Championship in action.”

City of Launceston Mayor Albert van Zetten said the city was thrilled to welcome the ARC back to Tasmania for the first time since 2019.

“This event is always a popular one in Launceston, and we’ve seen big crowds enjoying the spectacle this event delivers.

“To have the event named after the great City of Launceston only further highlights our ability and desire to host high profile national events in our region.

“After a small absence, we couldn’t be more excited to welcome back rally competitors, teams and spectators to Launceston to enjoy both the rallying and everything our wonderful region has to offer. We know many people will make a holiday out of an event such as this and our city welcomes everyone with open arms.”

A new naming rights partner for the event is also expected to be revealed shortly.

Anyone interested in officiating at the event should keep an eye on www.rally.com.au/launceston for further information and application details in the coming weeks and months.

Spectator information and entry details for competitors will be made available in the lead up to the event. Spectators will again be allowed to enjoy the event free of charge.

The 2022 Rally Launceston will be held on 25-26 June.
