Having enjoyed a decade-long career at local and state level, David Wright will finally make the jump to the national stage, having entered the 2024 Rally of Canberra.
The 2024 Bosch Motorsport Australia Rally Championship (ARC) season opener will serve as Wright’s debut in the nation’s top rally competition, with veteran co-driver James Ford locked in to call the notes.
While it will be Wright and Ford’s first foray into the ARC together, the pair has a wealth of experience competing at state-level, with their most recent result being an outright 13th place at last year’s Rally of the Bay.
Ford has also run in the ARC as a co-driver for more than two decades, with his most recent campaign being with Irishman Cahal Carey in the 2022 Mainfix ARC Production Cup.
Wright and Ford will contest Rally of Canberra in the Mainfix ARC Production Cup behind the wheel of the 2006 Subaru WRX STi and will be sponsored by Rally Pro Motorsport and also Magic Bullet fuel treatment.
“I am really looking forward to making my ARC debut as it’s the logical next step in my career and should be a great challenge.” Wright said.
“Even though I have been rallying for the past decade, it’s been on and off over the past few years due to a busy work and personal life schedule..
“However I am really enjoying rallying at the moment, and because the ARC is doing exciting things, I wanted to be apart of it , so we decided that now was the right time to get involved.
“I would love to do a full ARC campaign one day, but it’s hard to make concrete plans in this sport, so at this point in time, I am just going to do Canberra as it’s my local round and will see what happens.”
Entries for the ARC season opener remain open until mid March, with interested competitors able to register a place via the Motorsport Australia Member Portal.
The 2024 Rally of Canberra takes place in the nation’s capital on 5-7 April.
