Bustard wins first Queensland rally for 2022

White Wolf Constructions ARC Production Cup drivers Ronnie Bustard and Larisa Biggar have continued on their stellar year, winning the weekend’s Globe Roamer III Imbil Rally event.

A healthy field of 27 crews were entered in the Acworth Recruiting Motorsport Australia Queensland Rally Championship event with Bustard and Biggar beating Queenslanders Clay Badenoch and James Wilson by just four seconds.

Rounding out the podium almost three minutes behind was another RSEA Safety Motorsport Australia Rally Championship (ARC) regular in Ryan Preston, who was co-driver for the returning Marius Swart in a VW Polo S2000.

Bustard and Biggar ended the one-day event with two stage wins as they were handed the lead on stage three, when event favourite Ryan Smart and ARC co-driver Brad Jones had issues, leaving them stuck on stage.

Bustard then enjoyed an entertaining tussle with Badenoch with just one second separating the two ahead of the final stage – the ARC Irishman charging to victory with a three second win on the final stage.

Following on from the win, Bustard was pleased he and Biggar were able to finish, despite having issues midway through the rally.

“It was an excellent rally with an unexpected result thanks to Larry (Biggar) and the work she puts in,” Bustard said.

“Unfortunately, I pushed too hard on the double causeway on stage five and caused damage to the front of the car, which meant we had to slow to the end of the stage to assess the damage.

“Luckily nothing had failed or completely broken except for the front engine mounting, and we had considered calling it a day at this point, but we decided to continue until the car stopped, which meant a slower run in sixth to see if the car would get any worse.

“Thankfully the car held together and with no mistakes we managed to be fastest and take our first rally win in the QRC.

“I would like to thank Larry for asking me to do the rally and the work she put into the rally as this is what got us the win.”
