ARC2 Offers Pathway From State-To-National Rallying

In conjunction with ARC partner MRF Tyres, the Confederation of Australian Motor Sport (CAMS) is today announcing a new category for the Australian Rally Championship for 2017; ARC2.

Michael Smith, General Manager, CAMS Motor Sport Events: “This decision is directly targeted at state competitors who have been asking about competing in the ARC. The ARC is not only a step up in standard, but we acknowledge there is a step up in cost as well.”

“We’ve been able to secure the funds, approvals and backing from championship series and event sponsors MRF Tyres and Kennards Hire Rally Australia. While an earlier announcement would have been ideal, we think it’s more important to be able to offer this opportunity than wait until 2018.”

Vivek Ponnusamy, CEO of Mentor Tyres, the Australian exclusive importer for MRF Tyres : “ARC2 fits in with the motorsport philosophy of MRF Tyres. We always wanted to help, support and develop grass roots rallying in Australia and ARC2 gives us an opportunity to do so. My congratulations goes to CAMS for coming up with this affordable concept where the state level competitors can step up to compete in ARC at minimal cost”.

To be eligible for ARC2, competitors must compete in their nominated ‘home’ ARC round and another ARC round of their choosing. The top three 2WD and top three 4WD crews then go on to a winner-take-all showdown on the world stage at the Kennards Hire Rally Australia.

Michael Smith: “To help these finalists out we’re offering free entry to the 2017 Kennards Hire Rally Australia and 4 free MRF control tyres- with thanks to MRF Tyres and Kennards Hire Rally Australia. “

“CAMS is of the belief that with ARC2 offering up to three rounds in total, it’s an exciting and affordable option for competitors looking to take another step in their rallying careers.”
