Rally Tasmania named best event in Burnie

The 2024 Buckby Motors Rally Tasmania has received a special honour from the Burnie City Council as it was named as Community Event of the Year in the region’s annual Community Recognition Awards.

Taking place on Wednesday night, the Community Recognition Awards celebrate the significant impact of individuals and organisations within Burnie’s communities via their achievements, and service.

Buckby Motors Rally Tasmania was the final round of the 2024 EROAD Australian Rally Championship and saw 50 national and state crews taking on the new event.

It was the first time the ARC had run in the northern town of Tasmania and attracted the attention of many locals and businesses in the town, with large crowds attending the Rally Show and multiple spectator points.

Accepting the award on behalf of the ARC was Nathan Newton and Eddie Maguire accepted the award.

ARC Director Adrian Coppin was thrilled to win the award, paying tribute to the efforts of the whole organising team.

“It’s fantastic that the Burnie City Council has recognised Buckby Motors Rally Tasmania for the social and economical impact it had on the township and its local community,” Adrian said.

“A lot of hard work went into making this event what it was and there were a lot of parties who contributed their expertise, time and finances to get it up, so to win this award justifies the effort.

“A big thank you to the likes of Eddie and Steve Maguire for their support and helping make the Burnie event so special, as well as sponsoring the Super Special Stage.

“Of course, this event couldn’t have been what it was without the efforts of the Northwest Car Club and its members, while Ben Newman and Buckby Motors also made significant contributions as a naming rights partner.

“Finally a big thank you to the Burnie City Council and Events Tasmania for their backing of the event and allowing us to rally in a beautiful part of Tasmania.

“Accolades like this go a long way in giving our organisation the confidence that we’re building a solid product and heading in the right direction, so we can’t wait to get back down to Burnie and to run another edition of this event.”

The 2025 Rally Tasmania once again serves as the final round of the EROAD Australian Rally Championship and takes place in Burnie on 7-9 November.
