Bucket-list item ticked for Dimmock

Peter Dimmock and co-driver Paul Bennett have capped off their ambitious “bucket list” goal of completing a full Bosch Motorsport Australia Rally Championship season, whilst also taking the 2024 Trenching Systems Australia 2WD Classic Cup title.

Driving their reliable Datsun 260Z, the duo claimed victory at Accent Benchtops Rally Queensland and the Adelaide Hills Rally, ultimately sealing the title by a decisive 43-point margin.

“At the start of the year, we thought we should do a full round of the ARC before I hit 60, to fulfill an item on the bucket list, and we came away with a win, which is even better,” Dimmock said.

“I started off my career in a Datsun 1600 like everyone else, but I had a Z back in the early 90s.

“I gave rally away for a while, then decided to come back with a complete Z.”

However, their path to glory wasn’t without challenges, as they faced fierce competition throughout the season.

“There is a lot of competition in this category,” Dimmock said.

“In every state and territory in Australia, we were running against the local boys and local roads, which were fairly quick.”

2023 class winner Dave Thompson was a formidable rival, delivering strong performance and consistently putting pressure on Dimmock.

Yet Dimmock and Bennett dominated every round, collecting more points than their rivals and collecting a total of 321 points by the last round.

“It’s all about consistency, to be there and finish every event,” Dimmock explained.

This triumph marks a milestone for Dimmock and Bennett’s careers and commitment to ARC, solidifying their legacy in the 2WD Classic Cup’s history.

The 2025 ARC 2WD Classic Cup begins with the Rally of Canberra on 21-23 March.
