The announcement came overnight from the Autosport International Show in Birmingham, where four-time World Rally Champion Ari Vatanen revealed that 2014 Swedish R2 Rally Champion Mattias Adielsson and Irish young rally driver award recipient Robert Duggan would be the Vauxhall team’s two drivers.
Despite the disappointment the announcement caps off a remarkable process for Windus and Tyler, who both flew to the UK a week ago, underwent a series of interviews with the team and drove the Vauxhall Adam R2 around a short tarmac test track.
With just seven drivers from around the globe selected to partake in the selection process both young Australian’s can not only hold their heads high but take consolation that their skills as rally drivers is now under the attention of team’s around the World.
“Testing is done and dusted!” enthused Windus earlier in the week. “The car was beyond any of my expectations. Huge thanks to all the crew and team members, huge thanks to everyone for their support.”
While for Tyler the feelings were equally enthusiastic: “It was a dream come true and a huge privilege to be able to drive the Vauxhall Motorsport Junior Rally Team's Adam R2.”
“I had a ball driving the car, but had just as much fun meeting a bunch of people from all over the world who share the same passion as I do. Thank you so much to the team for putting on such an enjoyable day even in trying weather conditions. I hope that myself and Aaron have done you all proud,” Guy added.
The seven drivers to partake in the test were:
