The event will be hosted from 26-28 May, with continued support from DOMA Hotels and the ACT Government.
Brindabella Motorsport Club president Martin Holberton has today stated the event and the clubs excitement on being able to bring an international motorsport event back to Canberra, bringing with it increased tourism and economic opportunities for Canberra.
“The event returning to Canberra is the culmination of several years of work with the community to grow the event with increased competitor numbers and spectators. This year we will see international cars come to the capital with multi-million global viewership,” Martin Holberton said today.
“The event is already shaping up to be an excellent one, with increased spectating opportunities demonstrating the best parts of Canberra dirt roads in the Cotter and Kowen forests.
“We are excited to continue our partnerships with the DOMA Hotels and the ACT Government who have worked with us for years to ensure the event is the best it can be, with competitors often discussing this being one of the best rallying events in Australia with the best roads.
“Competitors will also benefit from our partnership with DOMA hotels, with a 20% off room rate when booking when the code NATIONAL is used.
The Australian round of the FIA Asia-Pacific Rally Championships were previously held within Canberra from 1999 to 2008 under the management of the late Mike Bell.
“It is important to pay tribute to Mike Bell, who provided great leadership and development to the club which brought us a round of the FIA Asia-Pacific Championship round in the first place.
“Though the event is now moved forward from the initial October date, the club and the event committees are excited to get to work to bring an international level event back to Canberra and look forward to continuing to update the community in the coming weeks,” Martin Holberton concluded.
