Spectators

The Beast is set to be unleashed on the wild roads of the Yarra Valley from 22-24 September. A challenge where only the toughest will survive, taming the beast of 'the Valley' is the ultimate test of speed, courage, commitment and skill. Who will lose the trail and who will rise to glory?

With double points and a championship the prize, the hunt for the beast will be a fight to the end. Over 16 Special Stages through two grueling days, drivers go head-to-head in a fight to for the 2006 NGK Rally of Melbourne, the final round of the NEC Australian Rally Championship, and ultimately 'tame the beast'.

Do’s and Don’ts of Rally Spectating Spectator Instructions
DO: Give yourself plenty of time to travel to a Spectator Point, park and walk (or catch a bus) to a vantage point. Try to arrive at least 30 minutes before the first car.
DO: Park your car sensibly, so that it will not obstruct competitors, service crews or other spectators. In all cases, obey parking instructions given by supervising officials.
Note: It is usually best to park your car facing the way out.
DO: Keep clear of controls, including from the timing marker to the control area. If control officials ask you to move, please help them by doing so – remember they have a job to do, which can be difficult enough as it is.
DO: Place your litter in the bins provided, or take your litter home with you. It is handy to have a bag or carton in the boot of your car. Cans and paper do not beautify our forests.
DON’T: Try to copy rally drivers. Remember, if you give cause for complaint it will reflect on the whole rally. Drive carefully to and from Spectator Points and be ready to give way, if necessary on narrow stretches of road.
DON’T: Take dogs or young children to spectator points. If you have to take young children make sure they are completely under your control and please make sure that children do not get in the way of mechanics or officials while they are working. Please note that animals are not permitted at any spectator point.
DON’T: Light fires or smoke in the forests. Do not smoke near a car that is being serviced or refuelled.

1. It is a requirement that spectators view the cars whilst standing within the markers indicating the limits of the controlled spectator area – spectating outside these areas is strictly prohibited.
2. Spectators must not stand in prohibited areas and must at all times stand behind the bunting which marks the spectator area.
3. The instructions of the Safety Officer / Marshals must be obeyed. They have the power to postpone (or cancel) a stage until the spectator point is controlled to their satisfaction.
4. It is prohibited to ignore the spectator instructions and find your own way around. Not only is there a danger of meeting up with oncoming rally vehicles but many roads have wash-always, collapsed bridges etc., which are potentially dangerous.
