Toyota Racing Development

Toyota Racing Development Bio

The TRD Rally Team is launching into the 2008 Australian Rally Championship (ARC) season with two Super 2000-spec
Corollas, marking the first time the team will run two of the
naturally aspirated Toyotas.

Reigning champion Simon Evans and team-mate Neal Bates will
both drive the lighter weight non-turbo Corollas after Bates successfully developed the first iteration of the S2000 last
season.

The switch to running two S2000 Corollas follows the retirement
of the team's much-loved and very successful Group N (P)
Corollas that the team developed from scratch and ran for five seasons.

"It is a very special time for the team," said Bates about the
switch to S2000.

Three-time ARC champion Bates and his Canberra-based team
have spent the off-season building Evans' S2000 Corolla and
updating the rear suspension configuration on both cars.

The suspension development came as the team searched for
more rear grip, a problem Bates said was the car's only real
downfall in its first year.
